The History of the
Marists and Marcellin Champagnat
Our History
The Marist story began in 1817 with St. Marcellin Champagnat, a French priest with a deep passion for education and a heart for young people, especially those most in need.
From humble beginnings, he and his small community of Brothers laid the foundations of what would become the global Marist family. Today, the Marist mission continues in schools, social works, and ministries around the world, always guided by Champagnat’s vision of making Jesus known and loved through education, simplicity, and a spirit of family.
As we carry this legacy forward, we remain committed to shaping the hearts and minds of young people in a changing world.
