Marist Leader Pilgrimage to L'Hermitage October 2025
Marist Reflection L’Hermitage - Sasha from St Mungos Academy
My name is Sasha and my time in L’Hermitage was amazing. I made genuine friendships and talked to so many new people which I would have never imagined happening. We visited La Rosey (the place Marcellin Champagnat was born and grew up), went on a hike from La Valla back to L’Hermitage and for majority of the time, we were in groups with a mix of people we didn’t know. We took part in team challenges where a leader had to be picked from our group, then reflected on our performance afterwards. I was out of my comfort zone but that was the whole purpose, to challenge ourselves, to create a stronger bond between each other and get to know not only your teammates strengths but also your own. This worked because by the end of it all I felt a lot more comfortable with my team members. My favourite part was the social room. it was the perfect environment to get to know each other even better by simply just communicating. The thought of being a part of this journey though I was quite reserved, but it is so special. It changed my perspective on the way I think and the actions I take. I am really so grateful for everyone that made this possible, for all I’ve learnt about the Marist brothers and the whole experience in general. I’m looking forward to seeing what the future holds as a Marist Leader and, if I were to ever come back, I know I would be much more confident in myself and have a more optimistic outlook.
Annual Teacher Pilgrimage to L’Hermitage
A Journey to L’Hermitage
Embracing the Marist Spirit
Mr Kevin Meaney - Marian College
In March, I had the privilege of visiting L’Hermitage. It was a deeply enriching experience that offered a profound insight into the global Marist community. Myself and my colleague Gearoid Sheedy represented Marian College and joined teachers from Moyle Park College and Marist College Athlone from Ireland as well as Marist schools from Scotland and Germany.
The gathering was a wonderful opportunity to exchange ideas, share stories and reflect on our shared values. It quickly became evident that the Marist ethos is alive and thriving in each of our schools. Despite our different contexts, we found common ground in our commitment to nurturing students through the lens of the Marist Values.
One of the standout moments of the trip was our visit to Le Rosey Chapel, where the Marist Brothers hosted a beautiful lunch. The Marist Value of Family Spirit was palpable as we connected over stories, traditions and culture. The hospitality of the brothers was heart-warming and they were incredibly generous with their time and energy all weekend.
As the weekend came to a close, I found myself reflecting on how closely our aspirations for students in Marian College align with the vision of Marcellin Champagnat. His passion for education and care for young people continues to inspire and guide us today.
Gearoid and I are deeply grateful for the experience. We extend our sincere thanks to Brother PJ, Leigh Ellis and Maria Rauscher for organising such a meaningful trip. We also want to acknowledge Kym Doyle in Marian College for her dedication to the Marist Leaders Programme and her ongoing efforts to promote Marist Initiatives within our school.
This journey was not only educational but also deeply inspiring. I would highly recommend it to any teacher interested in exploring the roots of Marist Education and connecting with the wider Marist family around the world.

Marist Connections in Germany
One of the things that mattered to me most when I took up the position of Assistant Director of Marist Education was to visit all the Marist schools in Germany, to get to know the core teams and principals at each of the four schools, to exchange ideas, to hear about the great Marist work that’s been done in each place …
